FREE books for kids from birth to five years old!

United Way of Sandusky County is proud to sponsor Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in Sandusky County. Through funding provided by Dolly Parton and local community partners, The Imagination Library is dedicated to inspiring reading by gifting free books to children.

How does it work?

Children enrolled in the program by their parent or guardian will receive books mailed directly to them each month until they turn five years old. Each month, a new, carefully selected book will be delivered in the child's name to their home, with the first book arriving approximately 6-9 weeks after enrollment.

Why is reading important at this age?

A child's brain is 90% developed by the age of five. Having access to books and reading aloud has numerous benefits for a child; it builds literacy skills, language, and brain development. The number of words that a child knows upon entering Kindergarten is a key predictor of his or her future success.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library promotes early childhood education and fosters parent/child interaction - both of which are fundamental ingredients for future educational success.

Research has shown that children who participate in the program gain the skills that prepare them for school.
